Accepting Christ

Since the beginning of Christianity, the question has constantly come up “What must I do to be saved?” Acts 16:30. In order to answer that question, we have to start at things that have already happened.

In the Beginning: In order to understand why we need to saved, it is good to start at why do we have the desire to be saved? Why aren’t we just content with how things are? That is because we are not living in the plan that God originally had for us. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them…” Genesis 1:27-28.

But then Sin: After God created man and put them in the perfect world, man rebelled against God. Genesis 3:1-7. This rebellion is what we call sin. Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and because of their action, that perfect relationship with God was broken. “One trespass led to condemnation for all men.” Romans 5:18. But we cannot blame everything on Adam and Eve. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23.

The Punishment for Sin: As punishment for sin, we are each deserving of death, and eternal separation from God. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23.

Jesus comes to Restore: In order to redeem us for our sins, God sent his son Jesus. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3.

Believing in Jesus: The good news is that Jesus came and paid the price for our sins, so that we could be restored to our relationship with God for eternity. Revelation 21:1-22:6. All we have to do is admit our sinful nature, believe that Jesus is our path to salvation, and commit to change our lives in pursuit of God and his plan for our lives.

If you wish to accept Jesus Christ as your savior, and be reunited with God the Father, start by praying the following prayer:

God, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that my sin has separated me from you and your plan for my life. I believe that you sent your son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins. I want to come to you today and admit that I am a sinner, and accept your free gift of salvation through your son Jesus Christ.
